Myotherapy & Remedial Massage

Myotherapy is a form of a soft tissue treatment in the management of myofascial pain and musculoskeletal conditions which affect the integrity of soft tissue structures. These structures involve muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia which can become tight, stiff or fatigued.

Myotherapists assess, diagnose and treat myofascial pain and dysfunction using a variety of techniques including:

  • Massage therapy
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Myofascial dry needling
  • Muscle stretching
  • Prescribed exercises
  • Heat / cold therapy
  • Postural correction
  • Cupping.
Myotherapists are specifically trained in clinical reasoning and are registered through an undergraduate university degree.

Ormond Physiotherapy offers remedial massage as part of its Myotherapy program aimed at identifying biomechanical dysfunction of damaged muscles. Massage therapy is used to locate and treat damage to muscles, tendons and joints using specific massage techniques.

Conditions commonly treated include:
  • Sporting injuries
  • Stiffness / pain associated with poor posture
  • Neck / Back pain
  • Headaches
  • Stress / tension
  • Overuse injuries such as tendonitis / RSI.
Key benefits include:
  • Increased circulation and blood supply to muscles
  • Toning and relaxing of muscles
  • Easing of stiffness / tension
  • Improved joint mobility.
